I really enjoyed reading A January Bride by Deborah Raney. I
love to read books about brides and this book is another one of the books in
the Year of Brides series. You can read my review of A December Bride here.
Madeleine Houser is an author with a deadline for her next book. She has just moved from New York back to
Clayburn, Kansas, where her mother, who has Alzheimer’s, is in a nursing home. She is living in her sister’s house that is
being updated to be put on the market, because her sister’s husband just got
transferred to Ohio with his job. The
updating of the house is causing Madeleine problems as she tries to write in
the middle of electrical and plumbing problems, and to top it all off, she
sprains her ankle falling down the stairs when she identifies the source of the
plumbing trouble. Her neighbor has the
perfect solution…Madeleine can write at the bed and breakfast.
Arthur Tyler, an English professor at the university, and his wife
Annabeth, ran a flourishing bed and breakfast until Annabeth passed away. Now
he just teaches and has occasional weekend guests. Art, allows Madeleine to use
his home to write, and they begin leaving little notes for each other each day. Both think the other is elderly, as they
haven’t been introduced to each other, yet the times that they have actually
seen each other in passing, they have both taken note of the other. What will
happen when they finally meet? Will romance blossom for them, or will they
continue on as they currently are and go their separate ways?
